Brubaker Builders specializes in ICF construction

WHAT IS ICF?

ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) construction is a building method where insulated foam blocks are used to form the walls of a building. The foam blocks are stacked and held in place by metal ties, and then concrete is poured into the cavity, creating a solid, energy-efficient wall. ICF construction provides excellent insulation and thermal mass, helping to keep the interior of a building comfortable year-round while reducing energy costs. Additionally, the foam blocks are fire resistant and provide improved soundproofing compared to traditional framing methods. This construction method has gained popularity in recent years due to its many benefits, including increased durability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. Brubaker Builders uses Fox Blocks to build our projects.

DISASTER RESISTANT

ICF construction is known to be hurricane-resistant. The solid concrete walls and the foam insulation provide a strong and durable barrier against high winds, flying debris, and other impacts associated with hurricanes. Additionally, the metal ties used in ICF construction add extra reinforcement, further increasing the stability of the walls. As a result, ICF buildings have been shown to withstand hurricanes and other severe weather events with minimal damage, providing increased safety and security for occupants.

ECO FRIENDLY HOMES

ICF homes are typically more energy efficient than homes built with traditional construction methods. The foam insulation provides a high level of thermal resistance, helping to keep the interior of the home comfortable while reducing the amount of energy needed for heating and cooling. Additionally, the concrete walls provide thermal mass, which helps regulate the temperature inside the home by absorbing and releasing heat slowly. As a result, ICF homes often have lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint compared to homes built with other methods. The improved energy efficiency can also make ICF homes more comfortable to live in, with less drafts and temperature fluctuations.

COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS

The cost of ICF construction can be higher than traditional block construction, but the extra cost can be offset by several benefits. While the initial investment in materials and labor may be higher for ICF construction, the long-term savings in energy costs and maintenance can make up for the difference. Additionally, the improved durability and resistance to severe weather events can result in lower insurance costs. The exact cost comparison will depend on the specific project, location, and cost of materials and labor, but many builders and homeowners find that the benefits of ICF construction make it a cost-effective option in the long run
